The drum is a sacred instrument symbolizing the heartbeat of Mother Earth and holds spiritual, cultural, and communal significance. Powwow songs, structured in cycles called "push-ups" similar to verses, typically include a lead and chorus that are repeated. These songs often incorporate vocables alongside native language storytelling.
